Monitoring my health
The products described in this section help to keep a regular check on a person's health while they are at home. They allow regular monitoring of various health signs (such as blood pressure or weight) which are automatically sent to a provider of healthcare (e.g. GP surgery, hospital clinic, monitoring centre).
Blood pressure monitor
Measures a person's blood pressure. Some products automatically sends this information to a Multiple Vital Signs monitor or Health Teleconsultation System, which automatically sends health information to a health professional.
ECG monitor
Measures the function of a person's heart by recording the ECG (Electrocardiogram) trace. Some products automatically sends this information to a Multiple Vital Signs monitor or Health Teleconsultation System, which automatically sends health information to a health professional.
Enuresis sensor
Detect the prescence of urine in a bed and generates an alert. Some products consist of a mat placed underneath a bed sheet.
Epilepsy sensor
Detects when someone is having an epileptic seizure. Many of these products are used in or near a person' bed to detect abnormal body movements or other health signs (such as changes in breathing) and generate an alert.
Health teleconsultation
Allows a person in their own home to have a health consultation with a health professional located elsewhere. Many of these products use live video to allow them to see each. Other medical devices, such as blood pressure monitors can be used with some of these products, so that a health professional can collect health information about the patient remotely.
Multiple Vital Signs monitor
These monitor many different health signs and measurements, such as blood pressure, lung function and body weight. This information is stored and automatically sent to a health professional usually via the tlephone line or internet. Health professional who can review this information on a regular basis and contact the patient if required.
Pill dispenser & Medication reminder
Automatically notifies someone when there medication is due and provides the correct dosage from indvidual compartments at the required time. Some products also automatically reminds someone to take their medication if they have forgotten. If medication is still not taken, some products can also send alerts to a monitoring centre or carer.
Pulse oximeter
Indirectly measures the amount of oxygen in a person's blood. Some products also measure heart rate. Some products automatically sends this information to a Multiple Vital Signs monitor or Health Teleconsultation System, which automatically sends health information to a health professional.
Spirometry (Lung function)
Measures a person's lung function. This product may with be used to monitor a person suffering with a lung disorder. Some products automatically sends this information to a Multiple Vital Signs monitor or Health Teleconsultation System, which automatically sends health information to a health professional.
Weight scales
Measures a person's weight. Some products automatically sends this information to a Multiple Vital Signs monitor or Health Teleconsultation System, which automatically sends health information to a health professional
