Falls
The products described in this section are useful for people who are prone to falling over or who have a fear of falling. Some of these can help detect when a person has fallen over. This causes an automatic alert to be sent either to a monitoring centre via the community alarm system or to a specific care provider (e.g. nurse, warden, carer). Some of these products may also be used to help prevent someone falling.
Fall detector
Detects if a person has fallen and sends an alert. These are usually worn on the body, either using a belt clip or in a pouch. Other products are worn about the wrist. Some of the fall detectors also have emergency buttons to allow a person to contact someone, like a warden or community alarm monitoring centre, in an emergency
Movement detector (PIR)
Detects how if someone has entered/exited a room. It is used to monitor the level of activity. These are usually mounted high on walls and sends out a small infra red beam. Some products can detect if a person has been unusually inactive for a set period of time and send an alert sent to a monitoring centre
Occupancy sensor
These products monitor the use of different types of furniture, like bed or chairs. They can be used to generate alerts of a person has not returned to bed after a set time period (in the case of a fall) or not risen from bed after a certain time in the morning. It can send an alert sent to a monitoring centre. Some of these products are also used to monitor the daily living of a person.products These are usually pads placed underneath the mattress of a bed or the cushion of a chair.
Pendant alarm
These product consist of an emergency button to allow a person to contact someone, like a warden or community alarm monitoring centre, in an emergency. These can either be worn around the neck, wrist or on a belt/waistband.
Pull Cord
Used by a person to call for help in an emergency. These are usually placed in different rooms around the house. When a person needs help, they pull on the cord an alert is sent to a warden or monitoring centre.
