The Big Lottery Fund's Research programme is making up to £25 million available for high quality social and medical research projects across the UK.
Third sector organisations are able to apply for grants for up to five years from the programme, which will be administered by Momenta and supported by Third Sector First. Grants of between £10,000 and £ 500,000 are available, with up to £1 million for exceptional projects. Applicants who need extra support will be able to apply for development grants of up to £10,000 to help develop their research proposal.
Momenta have developed an online application process which can be accessed at http://www.bigresearchprogramme.org.uk/ Registered applicants will be able to access advice and support on the conception, design and management of research from Third Sector First.

Plans for a new Assistive Technology Design and Development Centre were launched on 5th March 2008 at an event at the Houses of Parliament. The centre will form a collaboration between Universities, NHS and Inventors.
The aim of ATcare is to "Provide hospitals, Universities and Inventors with access to core Product Design, Development and Testing, Regulatory Approval (eg CE mark), Project Management, Marketing and Business Development Expertise". The ATcare Centre is due to open in the autumn of 2008.

We are pleased to announce that Branko Celler from the University of New South Wales, Australia will be a key speaker at the RAATE 2007 Conference in Sheffield this November. He is a lead researcher in telehealth and a pioneer in lifestyle monitoring. His attendance is a valuable gain for the RAATE conference.
ACT were invited to hold a symposium at the 2007 BSG conference in Sheffield. We presented papers outlining the role of Assitive Technology and Telecare to provide care to older people in the community.

This new peer-reviewed journal, launching in October 2007, will provide you with a user focus on current and new assistive and enabling technologies, telecare and e-inclusion in health and social care.
Journal of Assistive Technologies will debate definitions and concepts and address ethics, policy, legislation and issues for day-to-day practice.

FAST (Foundation for Assistive Technology) has recently published its "Annual Parliamentary Report on Assistive Technology Research and Development" for the Department of Health.
It is designed to reflect the work the UK government has funded to promote the development of AT.
The latest edition of Technology and Disability (Volume 19, Numbers 2,3; 2007) presents a special issue about Technology in Dementia Care.
It includes interesting articles providing an overview of the use and design of technology in dementia care, an analysis of the cost-benefit issues and reports of technology evaluations.
