Toby Churchill Ltd

Toby Churchill Ltd is a British company based in Cambridge.  Our company started in 1973 and is the third oldest manufacturer of communication aids in the world.

Toby Churchill became disabled and lost his speech in the late 1960s following an attack of encephalitis while studying as an engineering student. Dissatisfied with the communication aids then available, he designed the first Lightwriter for his own use and, after meeting other people with similar needs, started to manufacture them.

Toby Churchill Ltd has many thousand Lightwriter users worldwide, and is the leading manufacturer of portable text-based communication aids. In 2005 Toby Churchill Limited launched into the Environmental Control market with adVOCAte+, where the company's established reputation has ensured early success in this new venture.

The company is interested in the growth possibilities in a broader emerging Assistive Technology market, within an innovative networking partnership. The ACT project offers a unique combination of R&D expertise to partners looking at expanding their areas of interest in the applications of ATT technology, both in south Yorkshire and in the wider European market place. Toby Churchill Ltd is excited to be a part of this collaboration.
