Care Professionals
The purpose of this part of the website is to give the wide range of care professionals already involved in use of ATT and those who may become so, useful information. Our primary target groups are those in South Yorkshire and Humberside, but similar groups elsewhere may find our information useful too.
The ACT programme concentrates on technology that has at least some electrical parts - by definition Telecare requires this, but Assistive Technology in general also includes purely mechanical technologies too. What is meant by the term 'rehabilitation technology' can also become confused with 'assistive technology'. The ACT team's view is that rehabilitation technology is intended to restore the body function. Whereas assistive technology is intended to permanently augment the existing capabilities of the client. It should be noted that some technologies contribute in both ways.
The ACT team are aware that for Assistive Technology there are already numerous websites with useful information and rather than duplicate all that effort we would encourage you to explore the links we have provided in the Useful Links page.
For those of you who are new to ATT you may find it useful to visit the What are Assistive Technologies & Telecare pages of the public area. The latter includes a database. What is different about our database is that the Telecare products and types of electronic Assistive Technologies included are accessed through types of need with the aim of showing the range of technologies available and what they do for the client.
As a care professional you will be aware for the need of continuing professional development - to keep up to date with the latest care practice and technologies. We have included a page dedicated to Training in Telecare & Assistive Technology, this will be updated regularly. We have also provided useful information and links to other web sites - in the Publications & Resources page.
